Pro-poor climate resilience
We acknowledge that the world’s poorest communities are disproportionately impacted by the effects of observed climate change. This policy theme is closely linked to our commitment to reach excluded groups. People living in vulnerable contexts face even greater challenges due to extreme weather, freshwater shortages and related issues like growing conflicts over natural resources and irregular migration. In response, we aim to strengthen the resilience of the communities we work with, enabling them to cope with, and where possible, benefit from the changes brought by climate change. To achieve this, we have developed tools to assess the specific impacts of climate change on daily lives, which inform the design of climate-resilience programmes and guide us in identifying new partners and donors.
Our ambition to build climate resilience in poor communities is supported by our policy influencing efforts with Dutch and EU institutions, which directly affect the resilience of the communities we work with. We also engage in dialogue and awareness raising activities with our supporters base and ensure that our corporate practices align with our sustainability principles.
