Inclusive education: Revision of classroom observation and school visits in Benin
The Beninese Coalition of Organizations for Education for All (CBO-EPT), accompanied by the entire PLE consortium, is mobilizing educational stakeholders to move towards significant change in inclusive education in Benin.
In fact, on November 26 in Bohicon, a workshop took place to revise the observation and class visit schedules. Joining the meeting were the management staff of the departments of Mono, Borgou and Donga, the three pilot departments of the Local Partnership Consortium for Education in Benin (PLE-Benin). This important workshop’s focus was the revision of class observation and school visit schedules so that they are sensitive to gender, inclusion in general and the quality of learning.
Such a schedule will help the education system immensely in the move towards inclusive education in Benin; schools that welcome and respond to the needs of diversity and therefore contribute to meeting the great challenge of keeping children in school.
Day of Excellence for Inclusive Teachers and Peaceful March to Raise Awareness of Inclusive Education
On November 27 and 28 in the commune of Pèrèrè, and on December 4 and 5 in the commune of Ouaké, various actors were mobilized around the issue of inclusive education in Benin.
24 teachers and 12 principals were awarded for having facilitated access for around twenty disabled learners in the target schools and providing support in the learning process in the classrooms despite the specific needs of these learners.
In addition, a peaceful march was held to raise awareness for inclusive education. The march was successful with the support of local authorities, decentralized state services, parents of students, teachers, learners and even those with disabilities, receiving special support to participate in the march. Wearing white T-shirts and with songs and placards showing messages about inclusive education, each community was represented.
This march symbolizes the increasing commitment of all those connected with Woord en Daad and its local partners as part of the fight to make quality education accessible to all in Benin.
