Why open data?
Worldwide many organizations are active in development cooperation. Each organization has its own methods, projects and budgets. Using open data makes it easier to see which organization is active where, how and with what budget. Woord en Daad supports this initiative and believes that sharing information will lead to improved collaboration as well as a more positive impact.
What is IATI?
IATI (International Aid Transparency Initiative) is an initiative for making information about development cooperation publicly accessible. This standard for open data was launched in 2008 during a conference held in Accra, Ghana. Worldwide there are a growing number of government bodies, funds and development organizations that make use of the IATI standard. By the end of 2016, over 500 organizations published information about more than USD 146 billion in expenditure. This allows citizens, media, governments and fellow organizations to gain a clearer insight into the work done and the results achieved. For an explanation of IATI and open data, please watch the short film below.
What is Woord en Daad doing?
Since April 2016, Woord en Daad has published a new set of IATI data every quarter. Besides basic project information, such as the countries we work in and the partners we work with, Woord en Daad has also published the results since May 2017. The implementation schedule provides information about which data Woord en Daad will publish. However, certain information will not be made public for various reasons. Our exclusion policy explains why.
How can I gain access to the data?
The IATI dataset can be downloaded from the IATI registry. The information is therefore available to everybody although the data needs to be translated from the XML format to readable information. Various online applications are available for this, such as d-Portal.org. Via a licence, Woord en Daad gives every interested person permission to use the data. We also intend to deploy the IATI data internally, for example to visualize data on our website.
