We support access to education for approximately 30,000 children worldwide. Education is essential not only for individual development , but also for the progress of societies. It lays the foundation for social cohesion, personal responsibility, and national development. That’s why we aim to make a lasting impact on children’s lives, fostering transformational and sustainable change (SDG 4, ensure quality education).
Strengthen education sector
We believe that teachers have a crucial role in delivering quality education to children. Additionally, we recognise that governments are the key duty-bearers responsible for ensuring access to inclusive and equitable quality education. For this reason, we support the strengthening of the education sector through (teacher) training, advocating for effective educational policies, and connecting relevant stakeholders across the system.
Our approach
As brokers in education, our work is guided by the following principles:
- We strengthen the role of teachers as key agents of educational quality;
- we facilitate collaboration and networking in the education sector, advocating for inclusive and enabling learning and teaching environments;
- we develop and promote quality learning content;
- we aim to create a ripple effect that enhances the entire educational ecosystem.
Partnering for systemic change
We collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders—including local and international experts and changemakers, civil society organisations and networks, knowledge institutions, public actors, and decision-makers. Wherever possible, we work in partnership with and through (local and national) governments, in recognition of their primary responsibility for delivering education.
Sponsorship programme
A significant number of the children we support are connected to Dutch sponsors through our sponsorship programme. This creates opportunities for mutual exchange, learning and global engagement. While children gain access to quality education, Dutch supporters deepen their understanding of global challenges and become more actively involved in making a difference.
Example Guatemala
In many schools, teachers lack the resources and support they need to truly inspire and transform their students. Our four-year School Improvement Programme addresses this challenge. Through structured round-table discussions, teachers collaborate to define shared goals and teaching strategies—both in and outside the classroom. Our programme restores a sense of dignity among teachers, enabling them to develop a clear vision for learning while equipping them with the essential skills and tools they need. Our unique approach works from the inside out, focusing on the heart, head, and hands—because we believe change begins within. Since 2021, in collaboration with the Guatemalan government, we have trained over 100,000 public school teachers.
