Our activities
Water is a basic necessity. We use it to drink, wash our hands, grow crops, and support industries. However, access to water is not guaranteed. 2.2 billion people still lack access to safe drinking water, and even 3.5 billion people do not have access to safe sanitation (WHO, 2023). This leads to preventable illness and death, particularly in vulnerable communities. Together with local partners, governments, and communities, we work to turn this reality around..
Clean drinking water (SDG 6.1)
For many women and girls worldwide, fetching water is a heavy daily burden—UNICEF estimates they spend a combined 200 million hours every day on this task. We collaborate with communities, local partners, governments, service providers, and schools to provide sustainable access to clean drinking water—improving health, dignity and opportunity.
Sanitation facilities (SDG 6.2)
More than half a billion people still share sanitation facilities with other households, –putting privacy, dignity, and health—especially for women and girls—at risk. Lack of safe sanitation contributes to the spread of preventable waterborne diseases. 1.4 million lives are lost annually due to inadequate water, sanitation, and hygiene (WHO, 2023). Together with local partners, governments, sanitation entrepreneurs and communities, we work to build safe and hygienic toilets and washrooms, and ultimately healthy living and learning environments in schools and rural areas.
Water for agriculture (SDG 6.4)
Water is essential for food production, yet only 4% of farmland in Sub-Saharan Africa is irrigated. We work with local partners and support farmer cooperatives with irrigation training, water infrastructure development, and innovative water-saving technologies to ensure every drop of water is used efficiently for resilient food systems.
Effective water management (SDG 6.3 and 6.5)
Each year, about 5-10 million hectares of farmland are lost due to erosion, posing a serious threat to food production (Wang, 2022). Proper water management protects soil , reduces pollution, mitigates water related conflicts, and reinforces water security. We work with governments, water authorities, and civil society to promote fair, efficient water use and long-term environmental stewardship.
